Refining my idea:
Doodlings with a sea theme.
Refining My Idea.
A dragons den style pitch, a sales pitch which includes details of the game, which will be simple as the focus is on the art and merch. To actually have some merch like plushies and decals, some sort of way of showing who I'm pitching to how you can put various body parts together to make your own, get it looking really visual.
Something that gives it what no other honours project will have??

Looking at Pokèmon's merchandise.
Pokèmon is quite old now, and started of in 1996 with the game for the gameboy. From there the anime, merchandise and perhaps most famous of all the trading cards.
The merchandise is simply too huge to list as you can pretty much get anything with a Pokèmon theme.

Here are some examples of the Moshi monsters characters, to give an idea of the kind of characters I will be coming up with.

This shows the diverse way you can get a product out there. As it does well, a demand for merchandise appears, which only creates more advertising in itself which creates more publicity and more fans.

Initial Ideas
First off I know my strongest point is my 2D work, digital and traditional. So not only am I at a position to be more confident with my outcome as I know it'd be better than any 3D models I've done, my research, ideas and concepts will look good enough to be handed in for a third year portfolio.
Looking at what I want to be doing career wise and who i'd like it to be doing it for, I know this work has to reflect that as best to get me at least an interview.
The companies I have looked at and admired whilst keeping in mind who's art style my own would compliment would be, in the game world:
That Game Company
Flow, set underwater you eat organisms which helps you to grow and evolve. Not a particularly stand out idea as there is also Spore, an EA game that starts just the same, but is in no way as dreamy and visually pleasing as this game.
Journey, Play as single player or co op, the whole idea is the journey you embark on, full of mystery and intrigue. Though a very short game, one that won top marks in many publications and websites.
This company have created games that have not only stood out not only style wise but gameplay wise, they are critically acclaimed and have a vision that I think suits my style and differs from other companies that have a different out look such as Media Molecule. Such as its not just simple gameplay and a whimsical feel, its dream like and calming almost, to me its a new approach and I look forward to their next game and would love to see how they work.
Pop Cap
Bookworm, a word game with minimal animation and no story. Yet addictive and fun, the worm you can see is the kind of art I know I could do well for a company like this.
Plants Vs Zombies, an RTS game, again simple animation and story, with a cartoon style.
Peggle, a different art style is used for the fish you can see but i know I can create artwork similar too.
This company makes games for the PC and smart phones, small, pick up and play games that are addictive yet do not rely heavily on narrative. Their art style is focused on 2D with simple animations with a cartoon style.
With this in mind, what I want to produce is artwork that would suit companies such as these and I now need to look into how I will do this, how I will package this to show at the end of the year and to create for my degree.

Flower, in which you play as the wind, and brings the surroundings to the forefront of gameplay rather than being simply the background. The player picks up petals along the way and guides them through each level with exploration and interaction being the key gameplay.
